From the provost: Lab safety — going beyond compliance to a positive culture

Provost H. Holden Thorp, PhD, led a National Research Council committee that just published a report on lab safety in academic research. In a letter to the university community, he says the most important takeaway is that a holistic approach is needed.

What paths do quantum particles, such as atoms or photons, follow through quantum state space? Physicist Kater Murch, PhD, has found a way to answer that question — a feat once considered impossible. The research is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Nature.

Scientists find new clues to brain’s wiring

New research provides an intriguing glimpse into the processes that establish connections between nerve cells in the brain. These connections, or synapses, allow nerve cells to transmit and process information involved in thinking and moving the body. The study’s senior author is Azad Bonni, MD, PhD.

Linehan named Neidorff and Packman Professor​​​​​​​​

David C. Linehan, MD, has been named the inaugural Neidorff Family and Robert C. Packman Professor at the School of Medicine. Linehan is a professor of surgery and chief of the Section of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Gastrointestinal Surgery.
